Washington, DC- Today, Councilmember Christina Henderson released the following statement regarding the Congressional votes on resolutions to overturn B24-416: Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 (RCCA) and B24-300: Local Resident Voting Right Act of 2021:

Washington, DC- Today, Councilmember Christina Henderson introduced the Fairness in Renting Clarification Amendment Act of 2023. This legislation clarifies that landlords may not charge exorbitant fees associated with processing applications for rental housing, raises the notice period for rent increases from 30 days to 60 days, and prohibits landlords from charging new or departing tenants with fees associated with “turning over” units.

Washington, DC – Today, Councilmember Henderson re-introduced the DC Advancing College Hopes for Immigrants’ Education and Vocational Enrichment Scholarship (DC ACHIEVES) Establishment Act of 2023. This legislation would create a fund for costs associated with higher education solely available to undocumented high school graduates in the District. We must be intentional about investing in all of our young people so that they can use their skillsets to positively contribute to DC’s local economy.

At-Large DC Councilmember Christina Henderson is seeking a Staff Assistant with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The position requires the ability to multitask, a strong customer service attitude, and an interest in policy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing the front desk, providing administrative support for the office, and assisting with the legislative portfolio through research and other tasks. A successful applicant for the Staff Assistant position will be detail-orientated, a problem solver, a collaborative team member, familiar with local DC policy issues, and passionate about serving DC residents.

Washington, DC- Today, Councilmember Henderson announces three pieces of legislation that impacts DC students from pre-kindergarten through college: the Universal Free School Meals Act of 2023, the Out of School Time Special Education Inclusion and Standards Amendment Act of 2023, and the New Student Loan Borrower Bill of Rights Amendment Act of 2023.

Washington, DC - Today, Councilmember Henderson re-introduced the Expanding Access to Fertility Treatment Amendment Act of 2023 and the Commission on Public Compensation Establishment Amendment Act of 2023. Both bills had hearings during Council Period 24. Residents, advocates, and Commissioners expressed strong support for both bills at hearings held during the last Council Period.
