                                                                                                Councilmember Henderson Releases Statement on Today's Organizational Meeting

Washington, DC- I’m honored to have been appointed by my colleagues as the chairperson of the Council’s Committee on Health. Although the District boasts very high rates of health insurance coverage, health inequities persist. We have much work to do to enhance our health system infrastructure, tackle the growing challenge of substance and opioid abuse, strengthen our school-based mental health program, improve our maternal health outcomes, and address gun violence as a public health issue. We also have the opportunity to make the District a hub for advancing critical research and development in health and life sciences. I look forward to continuing to engage in productive oversight, cooperative policy making, and crafting innovative solutions for District residents. I have immense respect for Councilmember Gray’s proven commitment to improving the health outcomes for residents across the District. I worked closely with him in Council Period 24, and I look forward to our continued collaboration in Council Period 25.
